HTHS Splash, inspired by the annual MIT Splash program, is an academic and community outreach event run by High Technology High School students who are passionate about educating the next generation and sharing their ideas with other enthusiastic learners.
Who teaches HTHS Splash?
HTHS Splash is taught by High Tech's very own seniors and juniors who are volunteering to share their knowledge on a topic that they're passionate about. Student instructors have been working hard to prepare their curricula and are bright, approachable individuals who will be more than willing to answer questions/chat with you at and after Splash.
Why should i sign up for hths splash?
Splash is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet like-minded middle school students from across the county, get your feet wet in a number of unique and exciting subjects, and network with high school students who are eager to mentor you. Sign up now and invite all of your friends to as well - it will be an event you won't want to miss.
When will I have access to my finalized schedule?
The courses that you select via the course registration page are not final and are subject to change. After the registration period closes, Splash admins will go through the registrations to rearrange the courses as necessary. You will receive your finalized schedule when you check-in with us on the morning of May 11th.
How much does HTHS Splash cost, and how do I pay?
We have a suggested donation of $15 to $20 per student for the whole event (including snacks and refreshments provided at the opening and closing sessions), with all proceeds going towards our selected charity: Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County. Donations will be accepted during check-in on May 11th and may be paid either in cash (in an envelope with the student's name on the front) or by check (made payable to "HTHS Student Activities").
What is the HTHS Splash food drive?
We will be holding a canned food drive at Splash for Lunch Break, an organization that helps less fortunate people in the community who can't afford these simple things we take for granted. Any and all donations of canned foods would be greatly appreciated! If you have cans you would like to donate, please bring them to the Splash event. We will collect all cans during check-in.
What if I have a sibling or friend not in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade who would also like to attend Splash?
Splash admins are willing to make a few exceptions for siblings and friends who really, really want to attend Splash. If you're in, for example, the 5th or 9th grade, and are interested in attending, please email [email protected] or emiliu@ctemc.org, and we'll see what we can do!
What if I can't stay for the whole day?
We highly encourage you to stay for the entirety of the event so that you can get the full Splash experience. However, if you know that you have to leave early, please email h[email protected] or emiliu@ctemc.org with your name and early dismissal time so that we can have it on record. Thank you!
What if I need to cancel my registration?
If you really need to cancel your registration please email us ASAP at [email protected] or [email protected] so that we can adjust our program lists accordingly
Can parents attend?
We love you, parents, but HTHS Splash is designed for the middle school student to explore his or her interests on their own!
My friends and i want to be in the same classes all day. How do we make sure that happens?
We do our best to get everyone in the classes they choose. However, due to class size restrictions and scheduling needs, we can not guarantee your schedule. In addition, we are unable to make changes on the day of the event. Don't worry about being with your friends! Splash is a great opportunity to meet new people who share your interests! The HTHS students are pretty awesome and nice, too.
